IMG today announced the six designers awarded a coveted showcase in the St.George NEXTGEN Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (May 15-20, 2016), Australia’s only international fashion platform.


PROJECT NEXTGEN is an evolution of the MBFWA New Generation show, that for the first time has had an internationally acclaimed judging panel select the emerging designer talent to showcase to the world. With over 50 finalists from around Australia, the following designers have been selected as the worthy recipients;


ANNA QUAN (Anna Quan) | NSW

This label has already won over the hearts of Kendall Jenner and a flock of bloggers including Margaret Zhang. Anna’s designs are all about strong tailored silhouettes in luxe fabrics.


HOLYSTONE (Renee Sealey) | VIC

Usually known for specialising in leather, the label has recently made a foray into silks. The womenswear label has Cara Delevigne as a celebrity follower.


JASON HEWITT (Jason Hewitt) | VIC

The label aims to offer an alternative to the trend obsessed fast fashion and items are made to order when purchased.  The debut collection titled Not Suitable For Work has found success amongst a gender fluid audience and fashion conscious shoppers who want collectable pieces.


KALIVER (Roni Cross) | NSW

The ethos behind the label is distinct, effortless, timeless and ethical. The dreamy collection is based on an empowering blend of femininity and strength.


MONSTER ALPHABETS (Sarah Ryoko Watanabe) | WA

Influenced by Japanese style, the brand draws inspiration from the unorthodox, forming a darkly romantic display of gothic minimalism and handmade jewel and silk pieces.


THIRD FORM (Merryn Kelly) | NSW

The brand has a unique play on structure, shape and texture with a collection that is effortlessly chic and full of wardrobe staples.


The judging took place at The Old Clare Hotel, where each designer presented their collection as well as their creative vision, design ethos and future business strategy. Handpicking the future of Australian fashion was entrusted to a panel of global fashion experts, led by IMG’s Head of Fashion Emily Weight, the panel consists of;


·        Donna Player (Merchandise Director, David Jones)

·        Eva Galambos (Director & Buyer, Parlour X)

·        Chris Buchanan (General Manager, Ellery)

·        Kelly Francis (Fashion Director, MADE)

·        Edwina McCann (Editor-In-Chief, VOGUE Australia)

·        Kellie Hush (Editor-In-Chief, Harper’s BAZAAR Australia)

·        Justin O’Shea (Buying Director, mytheresa.com)


The 2016 NEXTGEN Designers will also receive a 1 year mentorship from St.George Bank Business Advisory. This Business Programme is an invaluable tool for emerging talent.
